Are All .tivo Files Created Equal?

After a few months of reading, I installed TiVo Desktop 2.8.3, kmttg 2.1j w/Java 1.8.0_73, PyTivo pytivo-master_wmcbrine_2016-02-17.zip w/Python 2.7.11 yesterday on my Windows 7 Home Premium laptop. I transferred a few shows from my Roamio Basic to my PC with TiVo Desktop but then I transferred a LOT of shows with kmttg. I haven't tried transferring with PyTiVo yet. I have TiVo Desktop and kmttg/PyTiVo pointing to 2 different directories.

The problems I'm having today are:
  1. 'The Grinder' (FOX) transferred with kmttg gives a 'Message #86' when requested from TiVo Desktop but transfers and plays fine from PyTiVo.
  2. 'Fresh Off the Boat' (ABC) also transferred with kmttg blinks the whole screen when requested from PyTiVo and never gets to the 'Transfer this recording' screen. After about ~4-5 tries, a RED X appears along with "Transferring prohibited by the copyright holder." It plays fine from TiVo Desktop.
I never have both servers, TiVo Desktop and PyTiVo, operational at the same time. I stop the TiVo Desktop server and launch PyTiVo. Then I shutdown PyTiVo and restart the TiVo Desktop server. I also stop and start each server when I copy programs between their dedicated directories using Windows Explorer. I understand the time delay for the Roamio to see the beacon and update the list.

I'm coming from 4 ReplayTV 5XXXs w/Lifetime offloading my overflow to multiple instances of DVArchive running on a desktop server in the basement to 1 Roamio Basic w/Lifetime offloading my overflow to 'Something Reliable' running on a Windows 7 laptop and these unexpected inconsistencies have me concerned.

From my months of casual reading I came to the conclusion that kmttg / PyTiVo was the way to go. Initially I'm not interested in file compression / format conversion / encoding, just manual and automatic transfers creating .tivo files that can be easily sent back and viewed on my Roamio so TiVo Desktop could work as long as there aren't any more 'Message #86' errors.

TiVo Desktop also has an advantage in PC Files Displayed format, showing the date the show aired vs PyTiVo which shows the date the show was uploaded via kmttg to the PC. PyTiVo has a problem with losing the Episode Description after I 'Select' a show and then 'Left Arrow' back to the list. Confusing.

I have more questions but I'll save them until after I've spent more time working with the various programs and observing the results. For today, I'd just like to be sure that each program creates an identical .tivo file. I guess I could fc /b them in a DOS window but...

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
